Training Overview

The Course aims at sensitizing the Participants on the Objectives; Rationale; and Process of Job Evaluation with a view to effectively determining the relative Worth of Jobs within the Organization and designing Salary and Benefits/Pay Structures that is not only internally equitable but also externally competitive.

The course is suitable for Board of Directors, Managing Directors, Chief Executives, Executive Directors of NGOs, Heads of Departments, HR Managers, Compensation Officers, and all Managers who need to keep abreast with latest trends in and methods of Job Evaluation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The Course aims at enabling the participants to:

  • Establish the relative value of Jobs (internal relativities) based on fair, sound and consistent Judgments.
  • Design and maintain equitable and defensible Grade and Pay Structures.
  • Provide an objective basis for grading Jobs within a Grade Structure, thereby enabling consistent decisions to be made about Job pricing.
  • Enable sound Market comparison of Jobs with other Jobs and Roles of equivalent complexity and size in the Market.
  • Develop a transparent and clear basis upon which Grades are designed and Jobs Graded.
  • Ensure that the Organization pays same Salary and Benefits for work of equal Value.

By the end of the course, the participants should be able to:

  • Define Job Evaluation;
  • Articulate the Rationale for undertaking Job Evaluation;
  • Understand the difference between Job Evaluation and Staff Rationalization;
  • Comprehend the process and expected outputs of a Job Evaluation exercise;
  • Effectively undertake Awareness Creation for a Job Evaluation Exercise throughout the organization to sensitize staff and key stakeholders on the purpose and expected outputs of the Job Evaluation Exercise;
  • Undertake Institutional Diagnosis/Relevant Literature Review in preparation for the Job Evaluation exercise;
  • Understand the various Job Evaluation methods; including but not limited to the advantages and disadvantages of each;
  • Undertake Job Analysis with a view to Developing/Updating Job Descriptions and Specifications;
  • Design a Job Evaluation Instrument;
  • Constitute and act as an internal consultant in training the Job Evaluation Panel;
  • Identify Compensable factors in a Job;
  • Determine Factor Degree Levels in a Job;
  • Effectively undertake Job Evaluation/Scoring of Jobs;
  • Design an appropriate Grading Structure based on the Scores attained by the Jobs;
  • Determine relevant Comparator Organizations for purposes of comparing Staff Salaries and Benefits;
  • Undertake a comprehensive Salary and Benefits Survey;
  • Design a Salary and Benefits Structure that ensures both internal equitability and external competitiveness;
  • Review the Organization Structure, Functional Responsibilities and Determine Optimal Staffing Compliment for their respective Organizations;
  • Undertake Cost-Benefit Analysis/Determine the Financial Impact of the Job Evaluation Exercise;
  • Compile and Present a Job Evaluation report; and

Develop Action Plans for Implementation with a View to Improving Overall Performance of their Organizations

TRAINING METHODOLOGY:

The Process would be highly participatory. Our facilitators will provide a learning environment through which participants would effectively acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and practical aspects of Job Evaluation. The straight lecture would be rare. Case studies and Examples drawn from particular relevant organizations would be used frequently.  These would be supported, where appropriate, by a variety of stimulating videotaped programs, role-plays, management games and exercises, syndicated work and focused group discussions.

Our effectiveness is based on the quality of our professional staff, most of which have held senior positions in management before moving into consultancy. The course would be facilitated by a multi-disciplinary Team of consultants with proven experience in Development of Job Descriptions and Specifications; Job Evaluation; Design of Grading Structures; Salary and Benefits Survey; and Design of Pay and Benefits Structures.

TRAINING FACILITATION COST/PROFESSIONAL FEES:

Eliud & Associates (E & A) would charge professional/Training facilitation fees at the rate of Ksh. 232,000 (Two Hundred Thirty Two Thousand Shillings) per participant for the entire (5 days) course duration.(INCLUSIVE OF 16% V.A.T.)

 The above fee covers the Facilitation, cost of hiring Training venue, Teas and Lunches for participants, training materials, hand- outs and certificates of participation.

 However, the Fees exclude transport to and from the training venue. The participants, in liaison with their employers/sponsors, are therefore expected to make their own transport arrangements.

 NB: PARTICIPANTS FROM OUT OF MOMBASA SHOULD MAKE THEIR OWN ACCOMMODATION ARRANGEMENTS AT A PLACE OF THEIR CHOICE.

 HOWEVER,FOR THOSE PARTICIPANTS WHO WISH TO STAY AT PRIDE INN PARADISE,THE HOTEL SHALL EXTEND A SPECIAL  RATE OF KSH 9,500/- ON  HALF BOARD BASIS (HOTEL CONTACT PERSON  IS MR. IBRAHIM MAIYO TEL. 0780288688 OR 0727288118).THIS COVERS BED,BREAKFAST AND DINNER SINCE LUNCH IS ALREADY  INCLUDED IN THE CONFERENCE COST. IT IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE PARTICIPANT TO STAY AT PRIDE INN PARADISE OR ELSEWHERE.
